Margaret Jane COX (1775 - 1829)
Margaret Jane COX (twin), christened 20 August 1775 in St.
George's Anglican Cathedral, Kingstown, St. Vincent. Her christening record
lists her name as Margaret Jeana Cox. She was married 29 August 1796 to Dr.
Alexander MELVILLE, a former Army Surgeon. Margaret was his second wife. She
and Alexander Melville had the following children:

Thomas S. MELVILLE was born April 4, 1797 and christened in
St. Vincent in December 1797. He married Rebecca Sarah Lyte 29 Aug 1815 in St.
Michael, Barbados, W.I., daughter of Edward Jordan Lyte and Sarah McNeale. She
was born 5 Oct 1789 in St. Michael, Barbados, W.I., and died 17 Feb 1841.
Thomas S. Melville died on July 24, 1841. Thomas S. Melville was an Army
Ensign at the time of his marriage, but had to leave the service for not
receiving permission to marry. He served as Governor Admiral Lord Brisbane's
Secretary, then Treasurer of St. Vincent. He had at least eight children: Jane
MELVILLE, Henry Reed MELVILLE, Herbert Palmer Cox MELVILLE, Georgiana Ann
MELVILLE, James Chapman MELVILLE, Sarah Billinghurst MELVILLE, Henrietta
MELVILLE, and Alexander MELVILLE.

Charlotte Lydia MELVILLE. Married (1) Rev. Lansdown GUILDING,
(2) her cousin John George COX. She died in 1860 in Brooklyn, New York, USA,
and is buried there in Green-Wood Cemetery.
