Israeli Companies Collaborate On Jewish Genealogy Research Tool
Jewish genealogy is getting a boost thanks to the combined efforts of two companies in Israel. A genealogy and social network search engine is being launched by Haaretz.com and partner Famillion with the goal of uniting Jewish people all over the world.
Haaretz.com is the online edition of Israel’s Haaretz newspaper, while Famillion is a start-up genealogy company seeking to build a giant digital family tree. Famillion’s focus is on the link between Jewish families from North America and Europe and the entire Jewish people, including families in Israel.
The social network side of the project offers families the chance to interact with one another about their respective Jewish ancestry.
From the Famillion website: “It all started with a seed. The Founder of Famillion Ltd., Dan Rolls and his wife produced their family trees through standard genetic testing. On seeing their own family histories, they were inspired and envisioned a genealogical map that would connect all people from all over the world. Quickly, Rolls’ unique, human GPS idea attracted partners who joined the endeavor and in early 2006 Famillion Ltd. put down its’ roots.”
